World = Against My Mom?
My mother (divorced long long ago, never remarried) has gotten bitterer, lonelier. She seems to criticize everything: bad drivers (stupid jackes!), food prices, neighbours' barking dogs, co-workers, young people (their grammar is atrocious!), old people (move it!), Bell Canada (!), the Internet, ATMs, can openers, telemarketers, postal workers, squirrels who dug up her tulip bulbs (little s!), parking lots, technology in general, you get the idea. Myriad things irritate her and she loses her temper very easily and displays it readily by grinding her teeth/raising her voice/honking her horn (why don't you stick to your lane you jerk!). She's a wonderful woman with an amazing mind and I think it's going to waste on the small inevitable details of life. I think she needs a hobby/fun in her life (a man?). I'm a male in my 30s who has been living overseas for the past several years and I have recently returned to pay her a visit. Do I sit her down and try to change her focus or pacify my thoughts with the "old dog/new tricks" thing and let it go? I am worried about her. Seriously. I am seeking some practical advice from someone who has overcome a similar situation. Thank you.
